Where is the Druming Out

Marine Officer foresacked his honor.   In the 1960s show Branded the uniform was stripped, the sword broken , and buttons cut off. Why not now?

I agree that a VMI-style drumming out would be fitting for this situation; however,I would imagine that the ACLU would have a world class hissy fit if this guy would actually be drummed out. I guess feeling bad about doing horrible things and getting punished accordingly is cruel and unusual…

Not sure about ACLU–but I note the article says his punitive discharge is suspended–if he completes the terms of his sentence, he will keep his retired pay.

That bothers me–many times in recent years, officers who commit this and similar acts are permitted to retire rather than be dismissed because it lets the family keep the retirement benefits. I wish that just once the system would take that away, and maybe fewer folks would commit these acts if they knew their families‘ financial well-being was affected. As someone who a)draws retired pay and b) used to have to regularly defend the 20-year retirement system to Congress when I worked at HQDA, those who violate their oaths in the spectacular way this guy did make keeping the system as intact as it is a difficult sell. I’m with Hank–the Branded treatment would be too good for him.

One can not have honor without a moral code. This now-former marine officer did have such a moral code: he did as he willed, not seeking harm. Are we imposing a Christian worldview on an officer of the State, while demanding the strictest of separation between Christianity and State? If politics and religion don’t mix, how do we know what good order and discipline are? Are we allowed to know?

90 days and a dishonorable discharge. Where is the justice for the Victim? Where is the justice for the Corps? Where is the justice for Columbia?

We have grown so soft. The article failed to to tell us if he had to register as a sex offender which I’m going to presume as a no. If it was yes he’d be pretty much done in civil life.

The punitive discharge is suspended for the witness I think.
