I saw this today and was in tears of awe. Lieutenant General David Grange Jr. to be name this years Honorary Sergeant Major of the Army. General Grange commanded the 2nd Infantry Division when I was a Lieutenant. He was an inspiring leader and an awesome soldier. Two Stars on his collar, two gold stars in his jump wings, and two stars in his Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He led by example.
I remember the day he took the two battalions of Armor Lieutenants and Platoon Non Commissioned Officers to the site of a battle fought during the Korean War. In that battle he was 1st Lieutenant Company Commander who fought along side the 72nd Armor. On that day he was not the Division Commander, rather he was a senior lieutenant telling others Lieutenants and NCOs how to lead troops in war.
The Brits have a great traditions for an Officer or NCO they respect, they give three cheers. Every soldier in the United States Army should give three cheers for Lieutenant General David Grange Jr.–they don’t make his kind any more.
